Project Highlights
South-east Queensland Sub-Regional Waste Alliance Material Recovery Facility
We acted as legal, procurement and probity advisers to a local government regional waste alliance comprised of three local governments (Logan City Council, Ipswich City Council and Redland City Council) for the procurement, construction, operation and maintenance of a Materials Recovery Facility to manage recyclable materials collected from each region’s residents by efficiently sorting recyclable materials from residents’ yellow-top bins and supplying a range of quality products for beneficial reuse and remanufacturing.
Sunshine Coast Solar Farm
Paul Muscat, Craig Tanzer and team acted as legal, procurement and probity advisers to Sunshine Coast Council for the procurement of the Sunshine Coast Solar Farm, which was the first solar farm to be built, owned and operated by a local government in Australia, making Sunshine Coast Council the first local government to offset its entire electricity consumption across all its facilities and operations with renewable energy. At the time of its completion the Sunshine Coast Solar Farm was the largest utility scale solar farm in Australia.
Bundaberg Regional Council Waste to Energy Project
Craig Tanzer, Paul Muscat and team acted as legal and procurement advisers to Bundaberg Regional Council in relation to multiple large-scale landfill gas projects aimed at utilising landfill gases to generate energy by recovering and beneficially using biogas from landfill sites, and otherwise burning off excess landfill gas to produce less harmful emissions into the atmosphere than the landfill gas itself. The process improves air quality, reduces greenhouse gas emissions and contributes to the local economy.
Supermarket Development Construction Contract
We advised a developer in relation to the construction of a supermarket in inner Brisbane, including in relation to breach of a construction contract and termination for the contractor’s breaches and repudiation. Thereafter, we facilitated negotiations with a replacement builder culminating in the approximately $4 million cost-plus construction contract for the remainder of the project. The centre is now operational in inner Brisbane.
Noosa Shire Council Peregian Beach Community House
Craig Tanzer, Paul Muscat and team acted for Noosa Shire Council in relation to the procurement and management of the construction of the Peregian Beach Community House, an award winning, environmentally sustainable community centre for residents at Peregian Beach. The project required our team to manage the liquidation of the main contractor, manage the project in the ensuing period, procure a replacement contractor to complete the project, negotiate with subcontractors and the manage the replacement contractor to complete the project. The completed project is a thriving community centre in the heart of Peregian Beach with a range of spaces for various activities and events.
